Famco Chimney Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Famco Chimney Repair in Coventry: What to Know First

Famco chimney repair in Coventry is work we do regularly, and most jobs take a single visit once we’ve seen the problem. We’re an independent Famco service provider, not an authorized dealer, which means we’ll tell you plainly when a part can be saved, when it should be replaced, and when it’s better to leave things alone for another season. Typical repairs run $185 to $650 depending on what’s actually wrong, and we give you the number before a single tool comes off the truck. If you own a Famco cap, damper, or chimney component and something isn’t right, call (860) 743-7732 and Wendell or one of the crew will talk it through with you.

How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Famco makes solid equipment, but Coventry winters and twenty years of heat cycling find the weak spots in anything. Here’s what we actually see on the job, not what the brochure says.

  • Famco multi-flue caps with rusted base plates. The stainless top holds up fine, but the galvanized base plate on older Famco caps rots from the inside where condensation pools. You’ll see rust streaks running down the chimney crown. We replace the base with a stainless plate and reuse the hood when it’s still sound, which saves real money over a full cap replacement.
  • Famco top-mount dampers that won’t seal. The cast aluminum frame on Famco’s top-sealing damper can warp slightly after a few Coventry winters of freeze-thaw cycles. The symptom is a draft you can feel at the firebox even with the damper closed. Sometimes it’s just the silicone gasket gone brittle, a $40 fix. Sometimes the frame needs straightening or replacement.
  • Famco chimney caps with torn screening. The mesh on the cap sides is there to keep birds and bats out, and on Famco’s standard single-flue caps it’s crimped, not welded. After a decade the crimps let go and squirrels find their way in. If the cap body is still good we recrimp and reattach the screen; if it’s crumbling, the whole cap goes.
  • Famco lock-top damper cables that seize. The steel cable running down the flue gets coated in creosote, and once it corrodes inside the cable housing, the handle won’t budge. We don’t force these, because a snapped cable halfway down is a much bigger job. We extract it carefully and run a new cable, then treat the housing so it doesn’t happen again next year.
  • Famco masonry crown components failing around the flue tile. Famco’s crown kits install over the existing flue, and the junction between the crown and the clay tile is where water gets in on Coventry hillside homes that take northeast wind. We see spalling starting within five years if that seam wasn’t sealed right originally. Fix is removing the loose crown material and re-sealing with a proper crown coat.

Our Famco Chimney Repair Process

Every Famco job follows the same plain routine, and we don’t skip steps because we don’t like callbacks.

  1. 1
You call, a person answers. It’s us, not a call center. We ask what you’re seeing, what the chimney looked like last time you used it, and when we can get there. If you’re in our service county, there’s no trip charge.
  2. 2
We get on the roof and look. Not just at the Famco part that’s failing, but at what caused it, because there’s always a cause. Water entry, creosote, a bad original install, squirrel damage. You get phone photos while we’re up there.
  3. 3
We give you a number before work starts. Not a range, not an estimate that changes. The actual price. If a part is borderline, we’ll say so and let you decide.
  4. 4
Parts decision, made together. Famco parts we can get from supply houses in Hartford and Manchester usually within a couple of days. Where an aftermarket stainless part does the same job better for less, we’ll tell you that too. We never void a warranty by slapping on something that doesn’t spec out.
  5. 5
The repair and the test. New part goes in, we check the seal, run a draft test if it’s a damper or cap, and show you the finished work before we leave.
  6. 6
The guarantee. Every job, including Famco repairs, goes out with our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, one call brings us back at no additional cost.

What Famco Chimney Repair Costs in Coventry

Here’s what Famco work typically runs in Coventry, based on what we’ve charged over the past several seasons. These are real numbers from real invoices around town.

  • Famco top-mount damper gasket replacement: $85-$140
  • Famco chimney cap screen repair or replacement: $120-$240
  • Famco multi-flue cap base plate replacement: $260-$420
  • Famco lock-top damper cable replacement: $190-$310
  • Full Famco cap or damper replacement (parts and labor): $350-$650

What moves the price is roof pitch, flue size, and whether the old part fights us coming out. Steep roofs and three-story chimney stacks cost more because the work takes longer and we rig safety lines. Remember, we knock $40 off any repair over $200, and seniors and veterans always get 10% off. Estimates are free, so call (860) 743-7732 and we’ll give you a firm number.

Why Coventry Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for Famco Work

Wendell Pike has been working chimneys in Tolland County since 1999, and he’s been on more Coventry roofs than he can count, including plenty of cold mornings out near the Nathan Hale Homestead. We’re locally owned and owner-operated, not a franchise that rotated into the area last spring. When you call, a live person answers, any hour, and it may well be Wendell himself. We know Famco parts, but we also know when a DuraFlex liner, a HeatShield treatment, or a Gelco sealant is the better call, and we’ll say so. The number you hear on the phone is the number on the invoice. Ask anyone on your street.
