The number one compatibility gotcha is the flue tile’s inside dimension. Gelco caps are sized to specific tile openings: 8×8, 8×13, 13×13, and a few odd sizes. Measure the inside of the clay flue opening, not the outside of the existing cap, because the cap’s listed size always refers to the tile it fits. The second gotcha is the mesh. Gelco’s standard mesh is fine for keeping leaves and embers out, but it clogs fast on wood stoves burning less-than-dry wood.
